I have a friend named Dave. Dave is an extremely talented musician. Dave just released a new album.
If you like Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Indie Rock, or if you just plain like really good music, then you need to check this out. I gotta say, this album is incredible. All 7 tracks are amazing and different and worth your time. I think my favorites are “A Fitting Combination”, “And Now, We Wait”, “Plant a Seed”, and “C-Minor”. Check it out below:
It’s also available on Amazon and iTunes if you prefer those.
Some of you may know Dave from the local music scene in Utah. Dave played trumpet in one of my all time favorite local bands – Quadraphonic. Dave also played trumpet in another of my all time favorite local bands – SLAJO (Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra). You may also recognize him from other really great local bands including The Brobecks, John Henry, and Six-Sided-Box.
My wife and I went to see Death Cab for Cutie again last week. This was our 2nd time seeing them live. For the record, these guys put on a great show live. I know there are a lot of people out there who don’t think so, but not me. Granted, they are better in an outdoor venue, but that is largely due to the poor acoustics at the venue we recently saw them at.
Anyway, another great show. But, the best part was actually the openers. A band from Europe (Glasgow I think) called Frightened Rabbit. One of the best bands I’ve heard in a while. I immediately came home and bought two of their albums. I definitely recommend you give them a try.
I’m a huge Ben Harper fan, but unfortunately I’ve been disappointed by his more recent releases (with the exception of his collaboration with Fistful of Mercy). New single out from his upcoming album has promise though. I’m digging it. Check it out:
I’ve been looking for this for a long time. Its very hard to find for under 50 bucks. I finally found it on eBay for just under that!
Can’t wait to give this a spin. One of my favorite albums of the past 15 years…
Also, getting more stoked about record store day. The full list of limited RSD releases is available here: http://download.recordstoreday.com/free/RSD_2011_RELEASES.pdf
I’m hoping to get a few of those but they sell out so damn fast around here…
Oh and its been a while… so here’s a top 5 list for Top 5 things about Record Store Day:
